Dry Pet Food

In dry pet food, Solka-Floc® and JustFiber® provide many unique functionalities. They both deliver inert crude fiber while providing effective caloric dilution. Increased crude fiber content can result in firmer stool consistency while providing a more healthful label to the consumer .

The texture enhancement and water binding capability of IFC Cellulose Fibers provides improved shape and texture to dry pet food without contributing off flavors or odors. Solka-Floc® and JustFiber® have the unique ability to be compressed, therefore, dry pet food pellets are more uniform.

As an insoluble bulking agent, dry pet food products manufactured with IFC Cellulose Fibers can benefit from improved extrusion and enhance processing.

Functionality and Product Suggestions

Texture Uniformity
Dry pet food containing moderate levels of Solka-Floc® and JustFiber® result in improved stability and uniformity. Finished products will be more homogenous in texture and appearance.

Non-Fermentable Fiber
Solka-Floc® and JustFiber® are pure, inert fibers contributing zero calories and zero carbohydrates. The insoluble nature of powdered cellulose will result in a firm, more consistent stool in pets.

Improved Extrusion Rates
Theoretically, a less sticky formulation will extrude faster. Improvements in extrusion rates are directly related to the level of cellulose in the product. Used at a level of 5%, the unique water binding properties of cellulose and the formation of fiber-starch complexes will result in decreased resistance and faster extrusion rates; extrusion rates can be increased by up to 25%.

Moisture Binding
Solka-Floc® and JustFiber® powdered cellulose have the unique ability to bind liquid in food systems, up to 10 times their weight in water and up to 8 times their weight in fat. Since powdered cellulose is highly hydrophilic, it demonstrates a higher degree of water binding capacity.

Ingredient Binding
As a binder, Solka-Floc® and JustFiber® powdered cellulose work to effectively combine ingredients to create better consistency. Pet food pellets appear more homogenous.

Crude Fiber Supplement
Solka-Floc® and JustFiber® are excellent sources of insoluble crude fiber. Therefore they contribute zero calories and zero carbohydrates to your finished pet food product while increasing crude fiber content.
